The desk is beautiful! The finish is really nice, and I put it together myself (just help flipping it over on it's back to install the back board, and then again standing it upright. I'm almost 68 years old! The most confusing thing was the direction to put the drawer glides LOL! I'm always confused by those, and the pictures on the instructions as well as the video you can scan to watch to put it together are not clear, but I figured it out! We needed a desk for my husband to set p a second office, in a small space, and this desk fit the bill! There's enough storage and a big enough top to hold his laptop, 27" monitor and still plenty of room to spread out and write notes! Overall, it is exactly what we needed!Top drawer is designed poorly. Bottom drawer works well. The top on seems not quite wide enough and falls off the track in the back,I am between 3 and 4 stars with this one but am opting for 4.First of all, this desk looks really nice and has all the features that I wanted in a desk. It has large drawers, an open space on the upper-right below the top to place things that can still be easy to grab yet don't take up desk space. It is a really nice design in the layout respect. Looks-wise, The desktop is a rich brownish (not good at explaining colors) wood that contrasts the black nicely while still matching with the black-theme of the room that it is in. The handles on the drawers are very stylish (rustic looking) and the drawers are butter-smooth.The one MAJOR downfall is that the wood is NOT treated. This results in 2 issues. First, the desktop bubbles up. I use it as a surface for my computer's mouse and if I run my hand across the area that I use it in, it feels rough with small bumps throughout. However, there are other areas that are unaffected. The only thing I did in that area was use a computer mouse, so it is a little odd. I am also a habitual coaster-user, yet I have noticed one ring from a cup that I must have placed down very briefly. This isnt very noticeable and you'd have to run your hand across the desktop or look at it from an angle to notice. I use a wireless laser mouse and it tracks perfectly on the surface (well any surface) so I couldn't knock it to 3 stars because of that. The second problem you will run into is that the edges of the opening for your desk-chair get worn pretty quickly. This results in an unsightly exposed area where you rub up against it often.I am not a carpenter or wood-expert but I do respect wood and use coasters, pledge, etc so I knocked it to 4 stars because of the wear issues I mentioned. I do not know if you can treat it someway, but if you can definitely hit the corners that you will be rubbing against a lot as well as the entire top area.I have owned this desk for about 7 months. If I wanted it to last a couple of years I feel that I would have to pain the corners black that are worn down and exposed.I would purchase this product again if I had the chance, probably with the consideration of treating it with some type of protectant. It is definitely a classy looking desk and has great styling, coloring, and layout-features that make it a great buy.As others have noted the desk is sturdy, the design is simple. The "Sumptuopus Cherry" vinyl-like finish is quite a bit darker than depicted and looks more like "Sumptuous Dark Walnut". The packing and shipping was without a hitch- and then came the dreaded assembly noted by most all Amazon reviewers.Mine was no exception. It was about a four hour affair that began with me spreading all the pieces and parts out to familiarize myself with what lay ahead. This wasn't my first rodeo as far as assembling large items manufactored primarily for ease of shipment as much as for the products final use. What became evident as soon as I started assembling the drawer in "Step one" I noticed nine Euro-screws for attaching the drawer rails/guides were missing. Repacking this mess and mailing it back was not an option especially since I tore the hell out of the box unpacking it.I called the 1-800 number provided and who would have thought but , "All representatives were unavailable. Please leave your name and number...." I did, and went back to the array of parts seaching for the missing '13 mm Euro Screws' like an ape who keeps repeating the same frustrated behavior with the same negative result. Paging thru the instructions I noticed a yellow page addenda depicting a drawer assembly showing regular flat head wood screws with a part number not indicated in "List of parts". I found the 'extra unidentified' screws and went back to work and it turns out assembling the desk itself was the easiest part. Assembling the drawers was the hardest part. As per the recomendation calling out for two persons to undertake the job would have been helpful for this aspect and mounting the desktop. The instructions have little narrative and rely on isometric drawings with small print. Most of the parts were packed randomly in different plastic bags (Eight dowels mixed with screws and a ninth dowel in another bag?? The parts measurements are shown according to the metric system which may present a minor problem for those Americans like myself who have yet to embrace the standard. In any case, after an afternoon with a few incidents of fumbling with clips and Euro-screws it went well. I also used "Elmers White Glue"( no glue included)for all the doweled connections and to some of the drawer connections for added strength In the end the product appears durable (more so than other prefab furnishings I have assembled hence use of the glue) and attractive (as long as the unfinished front is against a wall), It is reasonably priced. My only and very minor disapointment is that it is not "Sumptous Cherry".Guys, I am happy with the product. Thanks for your quick response, I received the tray replacement and the drawer handle as well. THANKS .Like how it has alot of room but it has alot of parts to put together. Make sure you have some time on your hands before you try to assemble it.Delivered one day early by Amazon. Well packaged. No damage to any of the parts or pieces. For a particle board, assemble yourself desk, this is a pretty nice desk. The top is almost a full one inch thick. It’s advertised as a 48” wide desk but actual width is 45.75 inches. Why not just advertise it as 46”?? I like the shelf in the back for our tower PC.Assembly was simple as is all self-assembly furniture. It looks daunting at first with so many parts and pieces, but the directions were well written and illustrated. I like the fact they deliberately provide extra parts and fasteners. Don’t be alarmed when you have lots of leftover parts.HERE WAS MY ISSUE!!! The bottom file folder drawer did not line up with the desk frame as seen in the picture below. I noticed on other Amazon reviews 2 other people had the same problem. After assembling this for almost 3 hours, I was very disappointed that that the drawer didn’t fit properly. I’m very mechanically inclined and I knew I hadn’t made any mistakes. I called South Shore the next day and they had me send 10 different pictures to them. They recommended a fix that I knew wouldn’t work but I tried it anyways. After that didn’t work they said they would send me a new drawer front which I also knew wasn’t the problem. After much convincing, they agreed to send me new drawer slides and mounting HW as well, which I was also fairly certain this was not the problem either. It took a week for the replacement parts to arrive and sure enough it did not fix the problem. My wife called Amazon and they were prepared to send an entire replacement desk right away, but I didn’t want to have to dis-assemble the old desk and put together the new desk and still run the risk of having the same problem sine others also had the same problem. After studying the problem for a while, I finally realized the left side drawer slide was mounted 5mm to low. The mounting holes were drilled incorrectly from the factory. Since the new holes had to be drilled so close to the old holes, I used some left over dowel to fill the old holes and then I drilled new holes 5 mm higher. This fixed the problem, no thanks to South Shore (See pics pf repaired drawer below)The think that blows me away is that this must be a known issue at South Shore since other people had the same problem, but they acted like they had no idea how this could be happening or how to fix it.If you buy this desk, just be prepared that the bottom drawer may not fit properly and you may need to do this repair yourself; or wait for South Shore to give you the run around.Other than that……great desk !!!First off, this desk is very heavy, so be careful when moving the box when you're about to assemble it. There is very minimal text in the instructions, mostly diagrams. This is something that is going to take longer than 5 minutes to assemble. I assembled my desk close to where I wanted it, makes it a lot easier to move into position. Assembly was straight forward as I have assembled similar furniture before. When assembling the bottom file folder drawer, the instructions show that the drawer glides have three screws on each side to fasten them to the drawer. It is impossible to get the back screw in as the glide blocks the hole. I just drilled a small pilot hole on each side of the drawer and put a screw in each hole. Other than that, the build went well. I was very surprised to discover that the top of the desk is very thick, about 7/8". My old desk was less than 3/4" thick and was starting to sag in the middle.Lots of space, fit and finish is great. Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase.Checks all the boxes for me, I'm personally very happy with my purchase.Pros:-Sturdy, nice finish-Good Price, even compared to places like Ikea-Keyboard tray + drawers-Not too heavy and easy to assemble-Excellent size for my computer setupCons:-Some edges aren't perfectly aligned-Shipping caused a small dent the size of a dime in the side of my deskI shopped around Ikea and for some reason Ikea's desks' aesthetics aren't as good as this one's. Also lots of Ikea's desks are missing/lacking drawers. Not sure why, but I'm very satisfied with this desk I purchase as an alternative. Lastly, I really can't find anything else I would improve on for this table, it's just solid all around.Everything was going together great until I reached the last large drawer on the bottom. Turned out the holes were drilled on the same side as the slots for the drawer, when they should have been on the opposite side. This means the securing fasteners heads are exposed inside the drawer (see attached pic), and I had to extend the holes for the screws to secure the sliders to the other side so I could mount the slides. One other minor complaint is that there is a warning sticker on the side of the drawer bottom that is supposed to be facing up, and it creates a sticky spot in the drawer. That's why we had to line the drawer so things wouldn't stick to it. It's actually a really nice desk and very solid. It was so close to being great.Box it arrived in was very heavy, but all pieces were intact and damage free. After looking at instruction book and the number of pieces it seemed impossible. BUT I scanned the QR code and downloaded the BILT app. Instructions through the app were fantastic, made assembly a breeze! Able to replay, zoom in and out, etc etc. Only ran into an issue on almost the last instruction which was for bottom drawer. I thought the holes didn't match up. Then I realized assembly of the drawer was 100% possible, just the instructions weren't quite right. But it all fit together perfectly. Only needed help flipping desk upright, but otherwise is a one person assembly. Took me about 2-3 hours.Back of desk is unfinished, but that was expected and no big deal, it's up against a wall.
