I purchased this to protect the top of a buffet. I contemplated buying a piece of glass, but have experience with glass protectors and there are some caveats. Obviously, you need to be careful not to break it. Second, if the glass gets any liquid underneath it, it's a PITA to clean. Lastly it is expensive to get a piece of tempered glass cut to size.I purchased "Lovepads" in hopes this would be a good option and it definitely seems to be exactly that. It's relatively inexpensive, it's flexible (unbreakable) and if you get liquid underneath the pad, you can easily pull it off, clean it and reinstall it.The one caveat is if you are "particular", to get it really smooth and to lay even, you'll need to use a heat gun. I tried a hair dryer and that wasn't cutting it, so I had to pull out the big guns (the heat gun) and that made all the difference. That took a while to get it completely smooth and even. If you are not patient, you'll certainly get frustrated.Just be careful not to get your heat gun too close to the material, because it will easily melt or burn.Overall, its a great product and I'll definitely buy it again. My wife wanted to get a clear protector for our new kitchen table. Our last table got really scuffed up from the kids using it, spilling things on it, and just generally being kids. She wanted to put something on the new table to protect it from having the same thing happen. This gets the job done, and was fairly easy to cut to the right shape. We are happy with the purchase.I ordered one in 2018 for a finished bamboo standing desk. It worked perfectly and was easy to trim to size. Still looks good almost 4 years later.I just bought another roll for a different project, and the roll arrived bent in two places. I didn't contact the seller since it didn't seem worth the trouble. I just returned through Amazon. UPS picked up for free the next day, and I was refunded. Since my first order was successful a few years ago, I guessed I just got a lemon. So, I ordered the exact same item again from the same seller. It came a couple days later and this roll arrived in perfect shape.Lesson: if it arrives with dents/bending in the roll, just send it back, and try again!Additional thoughts after using:Some reviews mentioned oil spots forming. I now wonder if this has to do with misunderstanding around some wood finishes. Some woods, when using a more natural look, have oil finishes. Mine does. In fact, I applied a new oil finish just prior to getting the vinyl. This is important to protect my wood from cracking. As expected, some wet looking spots formed under the vinyl. It's obviously coming from areas that are more saturated with oil, and are branding at the surface. This happens without the vinyl cover. It's just not very noticeable. I'm hoping it will stop happening over time if I keep wiping it up. Either way, not the fault of the cover! Also, wrinkles go away pretty quickly (24-48 hours), which I think is related to reviews expressing concern around the vinyl stretching/expanding. As the vinyl settles and the wrinkles disappear, it obviously stretches out a bit. This seems normal (bound by the law of physics), and useful to keep in mind if you are aiming for precise cuts like I am.The size is good .. however, getting it to lay flat has been a really big challenge. They suggest letting the sun hit for a few hours - Eh. Didn't work. Then they suggested if that doesn't help, try a hair dryer. That was a tiny bit more successful - but not fully. It comes rolled and the rolling lumps are proving a challenge. Once it lays flat it WILL be a good fit. I do like the thickness. And it is easy to wipe off and clean. Plates and such do NOT slide on the over. I put the frost side down - with the smooth side up - thinking that cleaning would be easier. Was surprised about the tackiness of the smooth side (meaning you don't slide any thing on it) - but still appreciate not have an ugly, thin clear plastic table cloth on the table. I never hesitate to update my reviews should new info seem useful. My reviews are honest reflections of my personal experiences. You may have a different experience due to personal preference and/or other situations.Tried all 4 methods:1: Hot water2: Sunlight3: Blow Dryer4: Heavy Weights over several days.** #4 works best. Left several books on the surface for 3 days. Got it as flat as possible. I used double- sided clear tape to hold it place to stop it from sliding everywhere once it was flattened. This may not work for everyone depending on their table surface and if the tape would ruin it or not ( my tape will not due to the coating on my table top). Overall not bad. True to size. Came on time. No physical damage. Just a hassle to lay it flat.my kids spill on this daily and it cleans up well. I have a flowery table cloth under this so scratches wouldn't be visible. We frequently put freshly cooked dishes on top of this w/ nothing but a silicone matt in between. I haven't noticed any discoloration from the heat. Product initially had difficulty flattening out, but just leave some heavy books on it for a few days and/or nano-tape the corners down.I got this to protect our kitchen table from three little kids (they spill everything). I put a fall tablecloth under it and it looks beautiful. Surprisingly the kids haven’t spilled anything. I love it and highly recommend it. The quality is really nice and much much better than what I expected. We were experiencing white marks on our wood table. I’m assuming it was from hot dishes even though we use hot pads. After 7 years of dinners and homework I decided to buy this expensive piece of plastic. It has been great. My family has still been using hot pads and had little spills here and there. Erasers crumbs and food crumbs are wiped onto the table BUT I no longer worry about it. Kids are able to write directly on the table without needing clip boards or hard surfaces and that’s been a destresser as well. Only regret was not buying it when we bought our table.Table protector came with a ton of wrinkles due to how it was shipped. I spoke with the company and their customer service was good. They explained many ways to resolve my issue. Item is nice and thick & will protect my table.I like the thickness of the pad. The only thing I should of had done was to ordered the frosted pad which is recommended for wood tops to avoid air pockets. But it still does a great job at protecting the wood. But I was tired of the thin cheap ones where they get ripped and creased up. The sized i order I knew it will be about two inches long and the width was exact according to what was advertised. I was worried about the reviews as some complained about it was a couple of inches longer in each side. However when I received it. It was perfect I did have the extra two inches but I expected that. But I did not need to cut anything. I let it hang off. It doesn’t side or get caught. Overall I am extremely happy with the purchaseI recently had a birch wood bar counter installed in my small kitchen . Since I use it to do some baking and food prep I was worried that the wood might get damaged so decided to go with this product. I am delighted at the quality and thickness of it. and highly recommend. Definitely worth buying..
